Mystic Utterance
by Jeff Lawrence

A hand

reaches,

stretches

upward &

open to the

high heavens

where it finds

no extension of

hand or even finger,

but waits for the alms

of aesthetic assurance that

the spirit-cradled yearning

has crossed the cosmic distance

between self and silent Cynosure

A tear

dies &

descends

to earth,

but is not

absorbed by

dry dirt, for

the ruach-breath

blows it on with

wild-haired wetness

of sourceless tributaries,

welling up with power,

running free and unkempt

to the baptism of the Mercy Sea

A soul

groans

& utters

a broken

longing that

is muttered in

flustered heart,

until it is infused

by mighty infinitude

of pneuma-powered life,

the symphony of rightness,

a magic melody crescendoing

into the majesty of spirit-sound,

finally exploding in the ear of God
