Tracie Middleton is a newcomer to photography and a recent graduate of Austin College in Sherman, Texas. The editors of Communiqué met Tracie for the first time at the recent Trinity Arts Conference, where we were able to review her portfolio. Her black and white prints were mostly of the student assignment ilk, and she allowed us to cull through her notebook in order to find the most compelling images, possibly for editorial art consideration. Yet that initial intersection with this 'emerging' artist prompted the journal team to stay up half the night and discuss the direction of Communiqué. We decided that these pages must be a forum both for up-and-coming beginners as well as established artists. We hope to have the staying power and ability to return to artists like Tracie over the years and report on their progress. In the meantime, enjoy three recent views from behind the lens of a neophyte.
